It was agreed in December 2004 to appoint a
"Goodwill Patron" to meet with UNESCO
member countries in the Asia/Pacific region
which had not yet joined MOWCAP. The Goodwill
Patron would introduce them to the roles and
activities of MOWCAP and MOW Programs and encourage
them to set up their National MOW Committees.
In February 2005, Dr. M.R. Rujaya Abhakorn
was appointed by the Director-General of UNESCO
as the "Goodwill Patron". During March
- July 2005, Dr. Abhakorn organized and supervised
a series of awareness raising meetings/seminars
in Lao PDR, Indonesia, Vietnam and Cambodia
for MOWCAP and National Committees of MOW.
The objectives of the meetings were:
To provide information about
the MOW Program and explain the benefits
of setting-up a National MOW Committee
To present information on
the guidelines for setting up a National
Committee in the country and explain the
rules and procedures for that Committee
To provide information on
how to contact MOWCAP about the establishment
and composition of the National Committee,
the designated contact person and the coordinating
unit/institution.
To stress that MOWCAP must
be informed of the existence of the National
Committees to mobilize resources required
for the countries' participation in MOWCAP's
future activities and projects
To provide facts on where
to obtain further information on MOW program
and MOWCAP
Dr. M.R. Rujaya Abhakorn submitted a Final
Report on this Project to MOWCAP on June
30, 2005.
